Epping Industrial at a glance

The Annenberg Property Group are specialists in Commercial, Industrial and Investment Property. In Cape Town, one of the popular areas in huge demand is the Epping Industria.

The industrial area of Epping is the largest and most centrally situated industrial area in greater Cape Town (Goodwood). It is ideally situated to the south of Thornton, east of Pinelands and north of Langa.

This industrial hub is popular and sought after location for many thriving businesses as it is close to the major roadways, which results in the vast availability of most forms of public transport. The mega industrial zone is divided by the M7 into Epping Industria 1 and Epping Industria 2.

The Epping Community Improvement District (ECID) manages Epping Industria. Owners contribute to the operating costs of the ECID, who assists the City of Cape Town to take care of necessities like cleaning, security, emergency management, as well as traffic management.

Safety of the area is a top concern. The properties in the Epping Industria are very well secured as the area is under 24 hours surveillance, while extra security vehicles patrol on a regular basis.

A brief history of Epping
The Epping Industria was first introduced and developed in the late 1940s in Cape Town. However, industrial development was moving at a rather slow pace during this time, which then led to the circular Gunners Circle being used as a suitable track for racecars in the early 1950s.

This circuit, built in the latter part of 1950, covered a distance of about 5kms. The first race was initiated on 2 January 1951, which saw motorsport become a crowd favourite. Sadly, for motorsport enthusiasts, the increasing industrial development in the area at the time led to the races being stopped and permission to host the event in the future was declined. The final race took place on 1 January 1958.

With the industrial developments in the area moving ahead much more positively, the completion of the Athlone Power Station led to a further rapid increase in industrial businesses into Epping in the mid-1960s. (The outdated power station was demolished in 2010.)

Today, Epping Industria is home to a vast majority of the significant business operations in the Western Cape, (and South Africa).
